: : I am hoping that someone may have some information on the Japanese artist, G. Yokouchi. I have one of his paintings-- it is a lake scene in the Japanese Alps-- a fisherman in his boat-- a temple rising through the mist in the distance-- vibrant fall colors in the trees. This magnificent work of art is painted in the Western watercolor technique-- I believe it was painted between 1890 and 1920.

: I also have a watercolor by a Japanese artist named Yokouchi. It is a winter scene with a man walking next to a river holding an umbrella. Along the river bank, a boat is docked. There is also a building of some kind on the right side of the watercolor. The predominant color is blue, and it is artist signed in the lower left in Western style letters. I purchased this watercolor at an estate sale over 20 years ago. Judging by the frame that it was originally in, I would estimate that this watercolor was done within the dates you specified (1890-1920). I cannot find any info on this artist.

Hello! I also have a watercolor by what appears to be the same artist. Have you checked out this website?: www.auronet.nl/users/artnv/Watercolours2.html
Also, on www.artprice.com there is a listing for a 'Yokouchi, Tasuke (XX)' but no auction records or other information is available. There must be someone out there that knows something or ArtPrice would not have a listing. On the first website I mentioned he has examples signed both
'G. Yokouchi' and 'S. Tosuke' Perhaps they are one and the same? The one I have is a harbor
scene and is just signed 'Yokouchi'. It is superbly done, in my opinion. I'll let you know if I find out anything else. Perhaps we should all get together and have an exhibition for a newly 'discovered' artist!
