Evi,
This question comes up regularly on this chat board. The last time that I responded was on 4/22/03, when I said:
"Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golden is a fictional novel. It is so well written that it seems real, but it's not. The artist Uchida Kosaburo never existed in real life.
There were, however, many artists of the early Showa era who specialized in the depiction of bijin (beautiful women). You might take a look at the book "The Female Image: 20th Century Prints of Japanese Beauties" (2000, Abe Publishing, Tokyo; and Hotei Publishing, Leiden), where you will find the work of many "Uchida Kosaburo"s.
My favorites within that genre are Hashiguchi Goyo, Ito Shinsui, and (of course) Takahashi Hiroaki.

: I was wondering if anyone could possibly send me information about where I could find the famous painting by Uchida Kosaburo, if it does so exist. Thankyou! -Evi
