There is a brief decsription of Sawada's work in "Who's Who in Modern Japanese Prints" by Frances Blakemore. This was published in 1975, but contains the best description of his work I have seen.

Quoting from her book: "Inspired by the vastness of of aerial space, Sawada's prints expres the mood of the jet age. Peaked cloud layers deceptively appear as land masses and move the eye to a succession of new images. Powerful expressions-- of the infinite beyond, of forward flight at smooth speed, of the silent emptiness of the universe -- are condensed into one in a Sawada "airscape."
