Hello,

This is a most knowledgeable site for information on Japanese prints - I hope someone can help me.

I am researching a Utagawa Hiroshige print for a museum fundraiser. It is labeled "Numazu" with a description of the Tokaido seres, and brief history/commentary on the artist.

It is also labeled as an "original woodblock" "from the Vincent Price Collection, Sears Roebuck & Co., LE 3432, $75."

Other postings on the internet match the image and list it as Numazu from the Gyosho Tokaido series, with a series of musicians passing through a village. The four figure are on the left and walking with staffs to the left. A tall tree nearly divides the image in half, and to the right is a building surrounded by a fence in which a figure with a baby on back watches a figure stacking trays.

From perusing some postings here I understand that Hiroshige's work has been reproduced often since the 1800's, including restrikes from the original blocks, later interpretations, and reproductions. Can anyone tell me any informationa about this collection, or where I can find more info? I assume it is a later print or reproduction, but I don't want to undervalue, or overvalue it.

Thanks for any information or leads.

Kim Hoffmann
