: I am considering the purchase of a Toshi Yoshida print titled "Tancho Crane". It is signed and numbered in pencil. Any information about this print would be appreciated. I am interested in locating a book on Toshi Yoshida and his work, as well. Any suggestions where I might obtain one?

RESPONSE from JF:
Try the following, published the year after Toshi Yoshida’s death: YOSHIDA TOSHI: NATURE, ART, AND PEACE by Eugene Skibbe (Seascape Publications, 1996; paper, 92pp). Good biographical information by an admirer of Toshi who worked with the Yoshida family and used interviews, oral histories, and diaries. Toshi himself reviewed transcribed notes made from tape-recorded interviews. Unfortunately, there are only 16 illustrations (6 of oil paintings, 10 of prints), though all are in color. There are also many brief commentaries about the artist’s works in various books on modern or contemporary Japanese prints where you can find other illustrations of his work.
