: : : I have been searching, so far in vain, for a thorough reference on the works of Hasui. The best book I have seen was in the possession of a dealer and he indicated that it was out of print and very difficult to obtain. Any suggestions?

: Kawase Hasui and His Contemporaries by IJ Pachter published by the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse
: New York, might be of some interest. It was published in 1986.

A couple of other suggestions: The Toledo Museum of Art Catalogues of their exhibitions of 1930 and 1936 have recently been republished by that museum in a paperback called "Modern Japanese Prints".
You might also look at "The New Wave: Twentieth Century Japanese Prints from the Robert O. Muller collection". Both contain information about Hasui.
