: Last year I purchased a woodblock print that I have
: since found reproduced on a Japanese postcard. The
: card identifies it only as "Nanga picture by Gizan."
: I have been unable to find any information on either
: the Nanga school of art, or the artist Gizan. If
: anyone can provide any information on either of
: these, or can direct me to appropriate literary
: sources, I would be very grateful. Thank you.
WOODBLOCK PRINT "Nanga" Originated by Gizazn Izuno ( 1885-1957 ) .
I own two original prints by Gizan Izuno of Kyoto who first made a study of the Southern School of Chinese Paintings and later of the Northern School of the Sung and Yuan Dynasties, the only Japanese artist who subscribes to the traditional painting techniques of the Northern School ( HOKUSO-GA )
This is all the imformation I have "NANGA"by
Gizan Izuno .
