: Unable to find much on this contemporary artist. I know he was born in 1950 but two sources contradict each other. One says he was self trained in wood block printing and another says he trained under the painter Osamu. Who is correct and is he still alive. How much are his misty prints going for these days.???Thanks
According to the information sheet on Shufu Miyamoto prepared by Kappy Hendricks, Shufu Miyamoto, born in 1950 in Fukuoka, Japan, sudied oil painting under Osamu Ioka, in his native Fukuoka, in 1970. He began woodblock printing later, in 1972, carving and printing his own blocks, then printed silkscreens and lithographs, and returned to woodblock printing in 1975. He held his first woodblock print exhibition at the Fukuoka Cultural Center in 1975 and exhibited regularly after that.
Shufu Miyamoto could thus be both a student of Osamu Ioka, in oil painting, and a "self-thaught" woodblock artist.
As far as I know, he is still alive.
