: I have recently inherited six japanese block prints. I was told that they were created by a french artist. I am interested in their history and preservation (one is molding). The most spectacular of them is a pair separately depicting opponents in a cock fight. If anyone has any resource recommendations or knows who the artist is please respond. Thanks.
Response from JF:
You seem to have some prints by Paul Jacoulet. They should all be illustrated in the catalogue raisonné by Richard Miles: The Prints of Paul Jacoulet (R. Sawers Pub. & Pacific Asia Museum, 1982). Contact
the Pacific Asia Museum, 46 N. Los Robles Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91101 (818-449-2742) or at their website: http://www.westmuse.org/pacasiamuseum/ They still have copies of the book. Otherwise look in
libraries or used/antiquarian bookstores)
