: : I'm still looking for information on a recently acquired print by Elizabeth Keith. The subject is a young woman sitting on a chair wearing a white print dress. There is an oriental type rug and behind her is what appears to be a japanese screen depicting four women in Kimonos with what may be a fan and a hanging lamp. Any info on the print, the artist and the value would be appreciated.

: Elizabeth Keith (1887-1956) was a Scot who came to Japan in 1915. She did watercolours of Japan and Korea. She learned woodblock printing from the publisher Watanabe Shozaburo who published her work in the 1920's and 30's. She is discussed by Julia Meech in a chapter in "The New Wave: 20th Century Prints from the Robert O. Muller Collection" edited by Amy Reigle Stephens, published in 1993.

As an addendum to my prior note, there is a 4 page biography of Elizabeth Keith in "Point of Contact: Western Artists, Japanese Artisans" by Helen Merritt. It is a catalogue published by the Northern Illinois University Art Museum in 1993.
The print described in the question is not listed.
