: Could anyone suggest a good source material for background on Koryusai. Term paper time. Thanks

If you have access to a good art library, I suggest to look at Margaret Gentles, The Clarence Buckingham Collection of Japanese Prints (Volume II), The Art Institue of Chicago, 1965. It contains a very brief introduction on Koryusai but also 183 excellent illustrations (4 of which are in color). For a much smaller sample of illustrations but a longer presentation of the artist, you could look also at Willy Boller, Masterpieces of the Japanese Color Woodcut, Boston Book and Art Shop, 1957. Finally, there are a few interesting pages on Koryusai in Arthur Ficke, Chats on Japanese Prints, Tuttle(Rutland, Vermont), 1958 (originally published in 1915). Enjoy !
