Hi John!

Roberts' dictionary has the following entry on Baiitsu Yamamoto:

Baiitsu (1783-1856)
Nanga painter. Born in Nagoya. Protege of Kamiya Ten'yu, wealthy collector of Chinese paintings in Nagoya. Learned Chinese painting techniques of Ming and Ch'ing dynasties. In 1803, with Nakabayashi Chikuto, moved to Kyoto; studied under Yamada Kyujo and Yamamoto Rantei and sometimes collaborated with Uragami Shunkin. Taught many pupils. He and Chikuto were considered the best Nanga painters working in Nagoya, where he returned in 1854 under the patronage of the Owari Clan. A prolific painter, working with great rapidity; many of his works still extant. Painted in a naturalistic way and in the bunjinga manner; noted for his sure composition and clear colors.

Hope you'll show this to me sometime, John. How about the 17th??

: I received a painting on paper of a daylily that had earlier been sold by the Newman Gallery in Philadelphia and that was labled as being painted by Baiitsu Yamamoto. I know Newman didn't sell junk, so I am wondering who Baiitsu Yamamoto was and when he painted? Thanks, John
