You can get a perfectly readable print-out by temporarily changing the settings of your browser to override the colours of the web document.
This is the way to do it in Netscape 4.04:
Just tick the box "Always use my colors" and click OK. Now you can print the page with black text on white background.
There are similar ways of changing this setting in Internet Explorer and other versions of Netscape.
Don't forget to change back after printing, though.
