I want to buy a scanner for home, non-commercial use to make images of my prints. Purposes: to post on a personal web site I'm working on and to add the images to a computer-based print inventory.

It should be capable of making images that range from the thumbnail type up to larger detailed prints that might be used for study and deciphering rather than working on the originals. My computer is Windows 95 based. Most of my prints are Oban sized.

I want something that with an enlarged version of the thumbnail on the website won't take forever to download. I've noticed on some websites that the images load in stripes, and fairly rapidly. Some load a fuzzy picture at first which gets clearer and more detailed with repeated passes. With some nothing is seen until the whole thing loads (and my impression is that for most of this type the loading takes a long time).

So, could those of you who've gone through this tell me the differences in the types of images that people use on their websites, the pros and cons, and offer your reccommendation as to which type to use. And then what kind of scanner I should look for.

Thanks so much. Judy Hahn
