: : Can you tell me what the difference is between a print and a reproduction and how to tell them apart?

: I think the best way to distinguish them is to get to know the "look" of original prints (the paper, the colors, the line quality) by examining some at an established gallery or museum. It's actually quite easy to tell a modern reprint from a period print: the colors scream reprint, the paper has a different look (dryer, harder) and the lines are usually not as elegant as an original (though there are some very talented carvers out there.) As for telling an earlier reproduction from a period print, I think there was a great discussion on that a little further down this page, under a topic having to do with paper.

THANKS DAN
