Dan and John (and Theo - are you still with us? Sorry for hijacking your thread!),

Unless somebody with a different kind of expertise can add something, I believe this discussion is now approaching its end. No doubt I have learnt a number of things from it, though I cannot exactly pinpoint them. And hopefully, we have demonstrated some of the intricacies of the Japanese language to those who are even less familiar with this fascinating code system.

As for the book of senryû I can only say that in my experience the books and works of art depicted like this in ukiyo-e prints are very often, if not always, real ones. Sometimes they have even been used a means of dating the prints. In this case, depicting the pages on the prints could well be a way of promoting the sales of the book.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing the image of your Senchô print, Dan.

Best regards,

Hans Olof
