: Shohun Gallery has been selling for some time prints by Takuju Kosen (1760-1833).
: I cannot find this artist in any of my reference books. Can anyone contribute a little more information on this artist?

Hi Nils,
Takuju Kosen was a Zen priest and painter. At 15
he started his Zen studies at Soken-ji Nagoya. Later
he attended Toki-an near Edo (Tokyo). After 14 years,
he received his certificate and returned to Soken-ji,
where he studied for another 20 years and then
appointed head of the Myoshin-ji in Kyoto. Besides
being known as a great teacher of Zen, with many
followers, he was a skillful painter of Zen subjects
and a callgrapher.

That is all I can find, Nils, but perhaps a student
of Zen will have more info.
