Hello John,
thank you for your - as always - competent and exhaustive answer to my problem.
The prints displayed at Asian Collection indeed have the series title "Kiyogaki nanatsu iroha" as you suggested but the title on my print definitely is different: it starts with the "shichi" (by the way, when does one say "shichi or nana or nanatsu"?)"iroha" followed by two characters I could identify in a book for proper names as "Shu-i". Otherwise the print fits perfectly into the series.
My questions: do you think it possible that the title on my print is different because it is the first of the series? The different characters for "1" would suppport this, perhaps. If it is the first of the series, could that explain why the title "I"shikawa Goemon and the characters for "i"chi (one) have been chosen because "i"roha starts with "i", too?
What do you think?
Best wishes,
Nils
