Aren't we being a bit disingenuous here? Anders surely meant that applying aqueous solutions to a dry print requires care and expertise, otherwise accidents might occur such as running (bleeding) of the pigments, an irreversible damage. The original pigments were not simply dissolved in water and applied to the print. Binding agents such as rice flour paste were used to control the solubility of colorants. Immersing already printed, dry pigments in water at a later date could make them too soluble and thus cause bleeding.
