one of the books I had in mind is called "Ehon Azuma-asobi" (Amusements of the Eastern Capital [Edo, Tokyo]). It is a picture book in three volumes, published 1802. The two pages I have measure together 30 by 20 cm (for you non-metric people about 11 3/4 by 5 3/4 inches).
