John,

Thank you for responding so quickly. I have checked the keystroke lines with a book I checked out from the library but the picture I found is small (4" by 9") relative to the actual print. I used a loop to compare my print and couldn't find any major differences in the lines. And the differences I did find were slight and possibly due to the small size. I feel the printing could even be to blame.

I am a little confused on what degree of differences to be looking for. I have found some major differences in shading but I have read where shading has varied greatly from print to print. I don't know if this is common for this particular print or not. Maybe this answers my question.

I guess what I am asking is, do I look for changes in length, boldness of grass or just extra grass(lines), for example? Does the boldness of the line matter?

I presume I need a better photograph and perhaps you might tell me what book to look for. I have four ukiyoe books with only one with a picture (and it is black and white, Stewart's book). The color picture I do have is from the library.

If this is not an original could it still be a genuine woodblock print made recently? How would I know? If so, how recently could it of been made and is it worth more than its decorative value?

Sorry for all the questions but this is constantly eating at me.

thanks,
James
