Various postings on this site have involved discussions about the fading of prints and what to do about its prevention. I have wanted to attempt a documentation of the fading of a specific ukiyo-e print without causing such damage myself, and it so happens that recently just such a print that was once in my possession a little over a decade ago has now come back to me, with fading. Fortunately, I photographed the print upon initially acquiring it, and have done so again upon reacquiring it. I also know the circumstances of its display during the interim.

The results of displaying the print in a frame for a little over a decade in moderate natural light are discussed and illustrated on a new web page:

The Fading of a Yoshitaki Print

Those who have experience with such fading of ukiyo-e prints will not be surprised, but what I have posted should be reason enough for those who insist on framing and displaying their prints for long periods of time to reconsider what they might be doing to their art treasures.
