John,

Earlier this year, I was visiting with a shin hanga collector friend of mine who has an extensive collection of Hasui prints. I was not surprised to see a bunch of framed prints on the wall. However, I was surprised when he told me that the prints on the wall are color photocopies of prints which he has safely stored away. Upon looking at them, one could easily see that they weren't real woodblock prints, but if he hadn't told me, I probably would not have noticed.

In light of your example, this seems like a reasonable compromise. Keeping your prints safe and enjoying them at the same time.

I've got real prints on display on my walls, behind UV glass, but perhaps it's time to revisit that decision.

Marc
