I can't answer your question, Ms. Peters, but I hope someone else can. I've got the same seal on a "Hirosaki Castle" print and didn't know what it was until your post, since none of the other examples of Yoshida prints I've seen has it. I knew it wasn't the jizure seal, but that was all, and wasn't looking forward to deciphering the kanji or imposing on my Japanese acquaintances. With that hint I tracked down the kanji and recognized it as the one on my print.

: Does anyone know the significance of a "toku" seal (in kanji, this ideograph literally translates as "special") appearing at the upper left margin (where the "jizure" seal would ordinarily be) of a print from the oversized 1926 "Sailing Boats" series? I am specifically interested in its appearance on "Sailing Boats-Morning" (Abe catalogue #40).
