Thomas,
The common wisdom among dealers and collectors of Yoshida in Japan seems to be whether or not the Japanese signature is brushed or printed. The brushed signature is the relevant factor for collectability.
I have seen Yoshidas with printed “pencil” signatures and brushed “Japanese” signature, these fetch as much money as as much as if the “pencilled” signature is truly pencilled and the brushed signature is brushed.
I have also been told that there exists Yoshidas with a printed “Japanese” signature and a truly pencilled western signature. They fetch as little money as any other reprint.
Given the above information, I must say I’m not academically so experienced when it comes to Yoshida’s printed works. I have only handled a few hundred over the twenty five years or so I have been in the Japanese print business. I never made detailed notes on the Yoshida prints.
Happy collecting
Anders
