Guy,

I am certainly not an expert in cursive Japanese writing, but the second character of the signature seems straightforward enough to me. It appears to be Nelson 1530, and I have to agree that the most likely pronunciation of the name is Yoshikado. I still haven't found anything about him in my reference books, though.

However, having the Japanese characters of the name made it easier to search Japanese websites, and I came up with this image (at http://www.suruga.co.jp/tokaido/4book/2bu/9.html):

The name of the artist is given as Ichirinsai Yoshikado, and it's a depiction of a battle in 1335. The subject and style suggest that he was a follower of Kuniyoshi.

Apparently, a print by this artist was also displayed in a now disappeared online exhibit at the Kumon website.
