Your artist, Eiichi KOTOZUKA (1906-??) was born in Osaka and attended nearby Kyoto Technical School of Painting. He best known works include several scenes of Kyoto images, including “Eight Snow Scenes of Kyoto” which were published by Uchida, as well as other prints which were published by Unsodo. He also produced a number of “sosaku-hanga” (creative) prints in association with fellow artists Tokuriki and Kamei via Korokusha which was a subsidiary of Tokuriki’s own publishing company. Finally, he is additionally known to have self-carved and self-printed a number of his own works.
Like his well-known contemporary, Tokuriki, Kotozuka produced many small to mid-sized prints that were widely printed and distributed. However, he also produced several very nice, technically outsanding larger oban-sized images.
Enjoy your print!!
