That is an excellent approach to remove the tapes. Such solvents usually are comprised of Esters and Ketones, which by their chemical nature do not damage cellulosis or pigments. The only small risk is that tidelines may remain and that the solvent carries dissolved adhesive into the paper with the possibility of yellowing at a later timing.
