: It is difficult to be sure from the infromation given but it would seem most likely that your 'birdmen' are a form of goblin known as tengu, in which case your samurai would probably represent the young noble warrior Yoshitsune, who was supposed to have been trained in combat skills by the King of the Tengus. The latter sometimes is shown with a large nose! The most likely artist to show this would be Kuniyoshi.
