Early Toshi Yoshida prints employ the jiruzi seal used by his father. Other prints were limited, numbered editions. There should be no question about the authenticity of the signatures on those prints. One could compare the pencil signature on your print to one of these prints. Otherwise, it may be difficult to authenticate the pencil signature. What you should be most concerned with, however, is the artist seal and signature inside the image itself. The signature should be in sumi ink applied by hand.

The "new" book you are referring to is probably "Yoshida Toshi: Nature, Art, and Peace" by Eugene M. Skibbe, Seascape Publications, 6612 Cornelia Drive, Edina, Minnesota (1996). I don't know whether it's still in print or not. I either got my copy from Paragon in Chicago or from the Ukiyo-e Society of America (which would no longer be a source for it).
