The 1985 commerative reissues of some of Yoshida
Hiroshi's prints are available for reasonable
prices. The originals are noted for the
elaborate and painstaking printing process, in
which as many a fifty separate impressions were
made and individual blocks could be reused several
times. This process was closely supervised by
the artist, and the result was superb three
dimensional and atmospheric effects. My question
is, how does the quality of the commerative prints
compare to the originals, given the high skill
requirements of the printing process itself and
the fact that the artist is no longer able to
supervise it? Have they done a credible job?
